Chatterbox: The New era of Customized Assistant

In a world of smart-assistants, such as Siri or Alexa, there comes a tiny little friend proudly known as ChatterBox!

Now you might be thinking ChatterBox as an application which you will install in your device but it's not what you think.

ChatterBox is a customized hardware assistant which can be programmed as per its user's preferences.

What exactly is ChatterBox?

ChatterBox is a new step taken to help kids for making their life simpler by invoking creative skills within them. Rather than having a predefined assistant application, kids will design their own machine which will act as per their commands.

ChatterBox is a device equipped with a Raspberry Pi computer that enables commands to be processed. It is a box made from clipboard (strong cardboard that is recyclable) and so it will be fun building our own ChatterBox.


How do ChatterBox works?

As mentioned above, it has a Raspberry Pi unit for processing. To program the Raspberry Pi chip, a cool development platform (ChatterBox app) will be provided where kids can code their ChatterBox by using Block-based coding.

Block-based coding is very simple as compared to other programming languages.
After writing the code, it is connected to the Raspberry Pi unit and thus the program will be saved into ChatterBox.

In the above GIF, user is programming ChatterBox in such a way that whenever the user speaks "Hello World", the ChatterBox will reply with "Hi, My name is ChatterBox".

The important thing here is to switch on the device before you can command it. A button, which is placed on top of the device, should be pressed in order to enable it.

Steps:

  • Write a program using ChatterBox app. 
  • Connect the code to the Raspberry Pi chip.
  • Hit the Start button to test it. 

What ChatterBox consists of? 

  • Cardboard: To assemble and make a small ChatterBox.
  • Speaker: To enable the device to speak.
  • SD card: Where the ChatterOS is pre-loaded. 
  • Large Button: To start ChatterBox before you can give commands to it. 
  • Raspberry Pi 3B+: For the processing of commands and generating the desired output. 
  • Mic: That enable the user to speak up the output. 
  • Power Supply.  

What type of work can be done over ChatterBox?

Kids can especially use ChatterBox to do the following activities:
  • Contact their parents or teachers via calls or messages that will be done directly via ChatterBox. 
  • Get information about the weather.
  • Know the trending news which is suitable for kids. 
  • Setting up alarm clocks. 
  • Knowing today's date and weather forecast by adding some customized background music, and many more activities. 

How ChatterBox will enhance a kid's creativity?

Unlike other apps that only focus on teaching rather than learning, ChatterBox gives us an opportunity to design our own system. No one can know the shortcomings in our life better than us and that is why, through such a device, we could design our own solutions for our problems.

ChatterBox is the beginning to step into the world of Artificial Intelligence(AI). Today, almost every company has adopted AI for faster processing of their data and to learn from the data generated from the machine for analysis. Every organization is trying to apply AI for improved performance and future computers will be programmed using AI.
So kids will be benefited from AI start from their very young age.

In addition to creativity, users can also improve their communication skills, as they will have to think over about communication from both the ends(ChatterBox and human).
