How to automate Social Media Posts for Blogger

Today's world works on automation to set the flow for tasks without any manual intervention. If you are working on something that requires manual attention, then it's the time to move towards automation for streamlining tasks and improving the efficiency of your tasks.

For every Blogger, apart from creating blogs regularly, the next task is to make an online presence of their Blog on every social platform. To do so, they have to visit those platforms and share their article's link. Sometimes this becomes a tedious task if any Blogger is maintaining more that one social platform for their blogs.

If you are wondering whether how you can automate social media posts, then I would recommend you to take advantage of IFTTT for managing this process.

automate social media posts

Before moving to the detailed guide, let's have a short idea about IFTTT.

What is IFTTT?

IFTTT is a service that provides an API platform for users to create scripts for the apps to work together. You can visualize it like a hook that connects two or more apps to provide workflow. IFTTT provides numerous integration services, including WordPress, Google Blogger, Amazon Alexa, Instagram, and more... For example, if you to automate Instagram posts when you share content on Twitter, IFTTT helps you in automating that task.

After getting an overview of what IFTTT is for, let's dive into creating an applet in IFTTT that automatically shares your Blogger post to Social platforms of your preference (for example, Facebook page).

Create an IFTTT Service

To enable your application(s) to communicate with IFTTT, you need to create a service that primarily defines the name and a unique IFTTT URL of your service. All your workflows will be available under this service.

  1. Go to IFTTT and create an account.
  2. Once you log in to your IFTTT account, click on Create

    click on Create

  3. On the next page, click on the Build your own service link. This step will direct you to the "Platforms" page.

    build your own IFTTT service

  4. On the "Platforms" page, click on the Get started button.
  5. Then, enter your company's name. For instance, you can enter your website's name. Hence, this step creates an organization that helps you in organizing services for your multiple channels, if any.
  6. On the "Welcome" popup, click on Get started.
    click on Get Started

  7. On the Service page, you need to enter the required details and Save it.

After setting up your service, let's move ahead to create a Social Posting applet.

Creating an Applet

An Applet is a workflow that lets you define "if" block and its following tasks. To create an applet for Social Sharing, do the following:

  1. Go to https://ifttt.com/create, and click on the + button as shown in the image below:

    create trigger for blog

  2. On the Choose a service screen, select the service of your choice, let's say, Blogger
  3. On the Connect Blogger page that opens up, click on Connect. This action opens the login popup to select the account associated with Google Blogger.
  4.  Next, on the Choose trigger page, IFTTT suggests few triggers, as shown in the image below:

    choose trigger

  5. Let's select the Any new post trigger to perform actions whenever you publish any new post.
  6. On the following page, click on the + icon to add the Social platform (Facebook page) on which you want to post your article.

    click to select target platform

  7. Then, on the Choose action service page, select Facebook Pages, and click Connect. This action will open Facebook login popup to sign in for connecting the Facebook page.
  8. On the Choose action page, among the suggestions, you can choose any of the actions. For this tutorial, let's choose the Create a link post action.
    choose your preference

  9. Next, on the Complete actions fields page, you can define the ingredient (field) of your post that you want to share on your Facebook page, such as Image, Title, and more. By default, the PostUrl field is present, as shown below:

    complete-action-field

  10. Let's say you want to fetch your blog post's title and URL, and post it on your Facebook page. To do so, click on the Add ingredient button, select PostTitle, add Message if you want, and click Create Action.

  11. Finally, go through the Review and finish card, and click Finish

Congrats! You have successfully created an IFTTT service!

To test it out, publish a sample post from your Blogger account and observe your Facebook page feed. It might take a few minutes/seconds for your new article to publish on your Facebook page. But it's better to automate your work to bring efficiency in your process.

Similar to this, you can connect various platforms using IFTTT applets. It is possible to use IFTTT for automating many use-cases. Now it's up to you whether you want to follow the traditional approach or advance your tasks using IFTTT.
